CKD/CKDu
Chronic Kidney Disease of uncertain aetiology (CKDu) was first reported in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka in the mid 90’s. It is defined as occurrence of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) without a known underlying cause. In the affected provinces a significant association has been detected with a rural agricultural population. Most studies reported that males are more affected in numbers and severity.
The screening tool is a package consisting of a combination of tests, testing for Serum Creatinine with calculating estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), measuring urine albumin creatinine ratio (UACR) on an early morning urine sample and measuring blood pressure.
